Yamasaki Optical Technology are proud to present the NEW XO1 FiberPulse OTDR!
The Yamasaki XO1 FiberPulse Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is an essential part of any professional fibre optic tool set. With a 32dB dynamic range for both 1310nm and 1550nm wavelengths and an integrated VFI the XO1 FiberPulse allows the user to certify fibre installations and locate faults in single-mode fibre optic networks end to end.
Featuring a rugged, light weight, dust proof and shock tested shell The XO1 FiberPulse can send pulses down fibre optic networks from one end of the fibre, displaying a trace and reporting all detected events such as splices, connectors, macrobends and fibre ends and breaks, which can all be downloaded via USB connection to a computer with the included reporting software.
France Chooses Fibre To The Home (FTTH)
France’s Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy has praised Australia’s decision to roll out fibre broadband to homes and business, and said that France will adopt the same technology because of its economic benefits and longevity.
“We have also made the choice of the fibre optic to the home because we think it’s the best and the most sustainable solution to bring quality, very high speed broadband to the people,” Fleur Pellerin said at a press conference in Sydney this week.
“I think it’s a very good investment to choose the best long-term technology.”
Her comments come after France pledged nearly 20 billion euros ($25.8 billion) of public and private money over the next decade to fund construction of high-speed fibre broadband.
Madame Pellerin said France had chosen to adopt fibre-to-the-home as part of its Ambition Numérique (Digital Ambition) because it would give the country a competitive economic advantage in Europe, where it is already known for its high-quality infrastructure.
“Definitely the very high speed broadband is a factor, is an important part of the effectiveness of the country. And that’s why we choose also the best technology” she said. “Fibre-to-the-home you don’t lose the quality of the signal according to the distance. So it’s definitely the best solution, technical solution.”
The debate in France over which technology is the most appropriate to supply the population with faster broadband is similar to the debate in Australia, she said.
And like Australia, France elected to roll out fibre to the home because cheaper options are unlikely to be adequate in the future, Mme Pellerin said.
“We think maybe today we don’t realise what kind of speed our citizens will need in the mid-term,” she said. “With e-health, with e-education, with smart grids, all these new uses that are not plain, not developed today – you will need maybe in the next five years or in the timeframe that you don’t expect today – you will need these speeds.”
Like Australia, which aims to connect 93 per cent of premises to fibre optic broadband, France will also use satellite technology to connect hard to reach homes and businesses to the broadband network.
In fact, Mme Pellerin was visiting Australia for the announcement of a $300 million deal between NBN Co and Arianespace, the European satellite launch company, to propel the NBN satellites into space.
The two satellites will allow access to fast internet to up to 200,000 homes, farms and businesses in rural and remote parts of the country at speeds people in the city currently take for granted.
Following the announcement Mme Pellerin attended a private briefing with NBN Co chief executive Mike Quigley to learn more about Australia’s NBN.

Knowledge Base: Choosing Between Indoor/Outdoor and Loose Tube Cable
There are 2 types of cables that are commonly used in Australia, Indoor/outdoor and Loose Tube. Both cables are designed to protect the optical fibres from being damaged during an installation or from environment surrounds. In order to choose the right cable for your application, you need ask yourself; Where is the cable going to be stored? Is it going to be stored in conduit or direct burial?
Anderson E-Series fibre optic cables are designed for use in short haul applications. The compact construction of this tight buffered cable makes it ideally suited for installation in limited conduit space. For more information, please see article on Anderson E-Series.
Anderson L-Series fibre optic cables are designed to perform in harsh outdoor environment, ideal for direct burial in the ground without conduit. Loose tube cable has water blocking features and has a higher tensile load than standard indoor/outdoor cable. The internal water-blocking protection of the cable core is achieved by surrounding it with a dry water-swellable yarn. The cable has a central strength member to stop over bending during installations.
Both E-Series and L-Series fibre optic cables are available in OS1 Singlemode, OM1 Multimode, and OM3 Multimode. As a standard, we have a core count ranging from 2 – 24. Higher core counts are available upon request.
